About

My name is Bella Foster, I'm a 17-year-old photographer, blogger, Depop seller, freelance writer and creative. I live in Wellington, New Zealand and dream of someday moving to California.

I started this blog several years ago and then it became somewhat neglected as I entered my teenage years and attempted to navigate high school and all of the many complications of teen life. This year I decided to leave school and pursue my art career, as well as many other projects that simply wouldn't be possible if I was still studying. I still live at home and I'm still very much a teenager, but I've thrown myself head first into adult life; organising exhibitions, running a small business and figuring out how to pay my taxes and make a spreadsheet.

I run a small Depop business, that is growing rapidly and has brought me so much enjoyment and taught me so much this year already. I sell a mix of funky retro pieces and 90s / early 2000s clothes. This combination creates a style that I adore and my Depop store has become one of my main creative pursuits. It's a great way for me to combine my love of photography, writing and fashion. I pride myself on producing high-quality images to promote the clothes I'm selling and taking the time to write in-depth descriptions of each one. I love the idea that girls from all around New Zealand are wearing clothes I've hand-picked, I even sold a pair of red leather pants to a girl in Belgium!

Throughout my life, I've always loved taking photos and started at a very early age, thanks to my grandfather, Bruce Foster. I'm by no means the most skilled photographer, I still have so much to learn. But I prefer learning from experiences rather than a class, throwing myself in the deep end and taking my camera with me. I've exhibited at The NZ Art Show three times, had a solo exhibition with Ventana Gallery in Martinborough and had my work in Deluxe Cafe this year.

I also write freelance for online publication, Concrete Playground. This was one of my biggest goals and achievements of this year, it involved stepping out of my comfort zone, being very persistent and very professional. I love the challenge and the structure of having a deadline to meet. I write feature articles, event previews for both Wellington and Auckland and some news pieces too. Writing for CP was the initial spark that drew me to start my blog again. I love writing and editing, I find it to be so calming and creative, once I get into the groove of it. Although I don't go to school anymore, I've probably never written so much before in my life.

I also enjoy painting, styling, graphic design, interiors and film. I can't wait to branch out and expand my creative horizons more this year and who knows where it will take me. I have lots of ideas and so much to say through my art and writing, and now I have the time to do it.

I decided to start up my blog again as a creative outlet, a place for me to dump all of my thoughts and photos and hopefully build a brand that I can grow into something truly special. I'm inspired by the colours and quirks of California, and I love the 60's and 70s, the music, fashion and decor. I'm creative, driven and constantly changing. I combine all of these things into a style that is uniquely my own.
